The past few years, we have been able to watch Blake Weir play baseball and football at JA. Mary Peyton loves going to the games and, generally, keeps up with him when he is on the field.

This is Blake's senior year. Very bittersweet. Let me tell you a little about this guy.....
He is a great Christian example for not only my child, but for other kids. He does not smoke. He does not drink. He doesn't hang with the party crowd. He doesn't even have Facebook because he doesn't want the temptations, etc. Seriously.

Is he perfect? No. None of us are. But he is striving to live a life that is an example of Christ in him. I am fortunate enough to be one of the senior life group (Sunday school) teachers at our church. In our youth, the seniors meet together in a co-ed environment and the teaching is lecture followed by group discussion. I cannot begin to tell you how much these seniors blss my life.
Ok-going on-last week, JA played my alma mater, Pillow. It was a hard one. And it is every year. I was at Pillow k-5 through 12th grade. I have wonderful memories there. Tommy was at JA 7th-12th (he went to Woodland Hills until 6th grade) and is a die hard JA fan. Mary Peyton? I don't think that needs an explanation.....
Blake has been wanting a punt or kick off return. Last week rolls around. He had a 75 yard punt return for a touchdown, then an 88 yard kick off return for a touchdown, and another 66 yard punt return for a touchdown. He ended the night with 263 all purpose yards!!! It was unreal!
After the game, instead of going to the 5th quarter party, he chose to go to Dairy Queen with a group of us from church. We were all able to brag on him and tell him how proud we were of him!
Mary Peyton was especially smitten. He had told her before the game that she could wear the jersey that he didn't wear that night. He brought it to the school and gave it to Tommy who was waiting on me and MP. The look on her face was priceless when she saw that he had it!!!
She went from this:

To this:

In no time! After the game, she wasted no time heading to the field to find Blake. He had to do a post game interview on the radio, so it took a little bit, but he came back down. While we were waiting, though, I heard a few cheerleaders, accents (our dance team), and just other girls ask her where she got his jersey. She would smile ear to ear and just say, "Blake gave it to me!"
This week, because of the performance I mentioned earlier, Blake was nominated for the Blitz 16/Bankplus player of the week. Votes are cast online and by phone for about 3 1/2 days. When we got to Memphia last night, I had a text from him that said, "I won!". MP and I both squealed and got some looks in the airport, but we figure we won't see these people again anyway, right?
Blake, we are so proud of you and can't wait to see how the rest of your senior year goes! Keep your head up and your eyes focused in the ultimate prize that I know you are striving for! Tommy and I are always here for you if you need us and you know that! You are a blessing to us!!!

(oh-the picture above was taken last week. Mary Peyton was looking at it as she scrolled through pictures on the plane and said, "Blake sure is a good guy. And he's kinda like my brother, mama. And he has a great smile!". I said, "well, MP, yes he is a good guy. And I'm sure he will claim you as a little sister. And yes-he does have a great smile!")
