those of you who are friends of mine on facebook have seen this image, but there are some who haven't.
this is an image i have been waiting for since before i had a child. an image i dreamed of having. an image i hoped would come to be.
most people who know me know that i am quite the sentimental person. i would rather have something old with a story behind it than something new that is just mine. and it's even more precious if it is something that has been in my family.
this dress was made for our wedding by my great aunt, doris britt. her granddaughter, mary key, was the most beautiful flower girl that we could have ever hoped for. "granny" sews like no-one else and when i told her i had something specific in mind, she did not flinch. i found a collar that i liked on one pattern, the pleated dress part of another dress, no sleeves on another, and the way the bottom of the dress copied the collar on another dress.
whew.
when mary key was in our wedding, i told key that i could not wait until i had a little girl so that she could wear that dress one day. that day finally came!
9 years after mary key (one of the mary's that mary peyton is named after) wore the dress in our wedding, mary peyton wore it for the portrait i've had in my head all this time.
in fact, they were almost the exact same age when they wore it - both of them turned 5 in may and both of them wore it in august (different years, of course).
anyway, here it is. and i cannot wait to have my 30x40 of it hanging in my home.
be still my heart......
