a little country church...

Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

How sweet on a clear Sabbath morning
To listen to the clear ringing bells
It's tones so sweetly are calling
Oh, come to the church in the vale

Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

There she sleeps close by the church in the valley
Lies one that I love so well
She sleeps, sweetly sleeps, neath the willow
Disturb not her rest in the vale

Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

There close by the site of that loved one
Neath the tree where the wild flowers bloom
When farewell hymns shall be chanted
I shall rest by her side in the tomb

Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale
As the little brown church in the vale

last month, we had a "minter city" reunion. when daddy told me about it, i knew that without a doubt i wanted to be there. granted, it was mostly for people my daddy's age and up, i wanted to meet some of the people i've heard about but didn't know. it was such a fun two days.

on saturday, we all met up at the legion hut in greenwood to visit and have light refreshments. after a little while, we caught the trolley and went down to the crystal grill. we had our minter city group meeting and my mom and her high school class was having their class reunion! so we were able to catch up/meet with a lot of people!

sunday morning, we had breakfast at our church followed by the church service. seeing the sanctuary full of people who grew up in the little country church, who have memories that are priceless, and who share the common bond of just being from minter city was a sweet experience. i heard from several people how they could still "see" my granddaddy standing up front leading music. a patient of mine, who is also from minter city and was there that weekend, said that she can even "hear" granddaddy singing that song. what i would give to truly see him singing it again!

i'm so glad i was able to be there and hope that we are able to do it again!
