Happy Birthday, Evy Kate Lancaster!

its hard to believe that it's been a year since this little girl was born!

ashley and i have a precious friendship that i wouldn't trade for anything. a few years ago, after she and kurt married, i don't know how it happened, but we just started sharing and got to be friends. she is one i can call and truly share anything.

in april 2008, i started praying for ashley every morning at 7:15. i set an alarm on my phone that just says "ashley" and it goes off - vacation days, weekends, it doesn't matter. i stop and say a little prayer for her. sometimes it's about something she has specifically asked me to pray for - other times it's just for her and the duties of being a wife and mom!

she had talked to me about wanting to have a baby, but kurt wasn't quite ready. so that april, i prayed daily - specifically - for God's will for a baby in their life.

in june 2008, ashley sent me a text (i was at work). it said something to the effect of "call me when you can". i got up from my patient and went to call her right then. as soon as she answered, she said, "i just want you to know that your prayers are answered!". i teared up. how awesome to see the answer to prayer.

february 9, 2009, i rush to baptist hospital after getting off work. i got there right after evy was born, but i didn't know about going in the "new" way (baptist has redone the women's hospital area and it has a whole new entrance, etc). i just went in the "old" way and i guess because i had scrubs on, they didn't stop me!

i asked for ashley lancaster's room and they pointed me straight to it. i walked in to realize that i was the only person there that was not immediate family. brother mark, karen, alyssa, kurt, ashley, me, evy. i can't remember if kurt's parents were in there at this point or not.

i did take a bunch of pictures of evy, ash, everyone. and i still love the one of ashley and her daddy. it was such a tender moment.

so fast forward a year and kurt and ashley have a beautiful 1 year old daughter, evy kate. click over on her button ("the happily ever afters of the lancasters") and you can see recent pictures of this cutie!

ashley, thank you for your friendship! i can't wait to watch evy grow!!!

much love.........
