my tenderhearted girl...

just a quick story from the game yesterday....

#26 for samford - a great athlete who had just made an interception and was running it back. he got tripped up a little and when he planted his right foot back down on the ground, tore his leg completely up. i mean really. it was gross. they showed the replay not once, but TWICE on the big ole new jumbotron. stand up and look down at your legs. o.k. now kick the right one out from the knee down ONLY - do not bend it back - yes, dislocate it & tear it up to kick it to the side - there. that's what he did.

it broke my heart. seriously. i hate to see a kid get hurt playing sports - and especially on the college level - because for some of these kids, sports are their only out, you know? our friend, matthew malouf (stella's older brother) plays for samford, so tommy talkd to mr bill (their dad) about the player during half time. mr bill said that he was their best defensive player.

when the guy fell to the ground, he instantly - almost in the same motion as his fall - took his helmet off and tossed it as far as he could. he grabbed his leg in absolute misery. my heart broke. as he was helped off of the field, he had very little control of his leg.....

mary peyton was very in tune with what was going on. she began instantly to ask questions. maybe because she is used to knee problems - with tommy having them and all. she asked if "that boy" would be back playing and if "that boy" would be o.k. she went on the rest of the game talking about how "that boy" hurt his knee.

and then she melted my heart. she asked what we could do for "that boy". i told her that we could pray for him. my sweet girl stopped right there and said her little prayer, "dear God. please help that boy. he hurt his leg and has to go to the hospital and has to get a shot. amen". i think that God knows the desires of my sweet angel's heart and He will take care of "that boy".

isn't it sweet when children get things we see as so complex? i love seeing the faith of a child.

I have learned more about God since having my boys than I ever knew before. My knowledge of him before them was sooooo tiny! Now I really know why He said we have to become like little children.

That is precious. I couldn't look at the jumbo tron during either replays. I just heard the "OOOOOOHs" of the crowd. I think Mary Peyton's prayer was the absolute sweetest thing that any of us 40,000 fans could've done for "that boy"!!! :)

After watching the first replay I had to turn away....McCain instictively said "OOOHHH" with the crowd as if he knew what was going on....the truth is, he probably did. It is amazing to me how much empathy kids actually have!!
