A great first day at JA!

yesterday morning we started our new morning routine. it is as follows:

5:40 a.m. my alarm starts going off. press snooze until 6

6:00 a.m. get up, bathe, get dressed, and be ready (suz & t)

6:20 a.m. get uniform out, breakfast ready, fix lunch (see note below concerning this on 8-12-08)

6:30 a.m. make sure mary peyton is stirring around - get her up and sitting on her barstool to eat her breakfast. fix her hair while she is sitting there - and put shoes on. after she eats, wipe face off and put on uniform.

7:05 a.m. pull out of the driveway!

so this has been our schedule yesterday and today. and it's working well for us! let's pray that it stays that way!

so this is my sweet baby yesterday morning before we woke her up. bless her heart - she really would sleep all morning if we let her!


this is her showing me the waffles that her daddy fixed her for breakfast. notice the blue bag (with the fish!) beside her - it's the same one that every preschooler at JA has - we don't get to get them backpacks and school supplies - we just pay $60 and get this bag and the supplies. it's actually kinda nice!

here is the top of her cute uniform dress. what you can't see is that at the bottom, there is a train and it says, "train up a child...". it's so stinking cute! i asked her if she wanted to wear the blue or the white - she chose the blue.

this was our last picture before we left the house. i stole this idea from renee - she's posted a few pictures of mb with "first day of _____" signs. i thought it was too good of an idea to not use! thanks, renee!

here we are sitting in carpool line waiting to drop off. it was rainy and nasty. and i think mary peyton was still sleepy - at least from the looks of the picture! this is right before i got down the lunch list so that i could circle what she was eating and write a check. {insert PANIC} i did not read and see that the hot lunch for preschool doesn't start until the 18th!!! my sweet baby was at school with NO lunch! never fear - her daddy went and got her a lunchable and apple juice - and had it at the school in time. whew - we did much better today!

when you drop off in the mornings, there is a teacher who comes out, gets the kids and takes them in. because each child has the same bag and has their animal/name on it, the teacher knows the child's name immediately and what class they go to. they don't let the parents go in - that's probably a good thing. mary peyton did not flinch at all when the teacher got her out - and she also didn't look back at us. i think this helped us to not cry like i had thought we would (yes - we both took her in on her first day).

mary peyton got to be the leader on the first day of school! i asked katrice how this worked out - she said that it was because our last name was first on the roll! i'm glad mpb will be able to experience that - "smith" never was the first! katrice said that mpb LOVED being the leader - she got to sit on the fish mat during circle time and got to be the meteorologist during the day (she got to go to the window and come back to tell everybody that it was raining - since it rained ALL day).

mpb also got an "award" for sharing! there is only one baby doll stroller in their room and of course all of the little girls want it. if any of you have been around mary peyton and dolls/strollers, you know she will fight you for them (right, heather? so much so that heather just gave us mallory's old one so that mpb wouldn't cry...). well, undoubtedly, our sharing talks worked and she did share at some point! yea, mpb!

mama: "mary peyton, who did you play with today?"
mpb: "sae-rah"
mama: "oh...is she your new friend?"
mpb: "yep!"

mama: "mary peyton, did you take a nap today?"
mpb: "yes, ma'am. i hadda go potty."
mama: "really? that's good."
mpb: "uh huh. miz atice say i go ONE more time."
(i asked katrice about this last night at a birthday dinner for brad reeves who is a big ole FORTY - she said that mary peyton was down to nap by the bathroom door and every time another child would go potty, mpb would go, too, so she told her "one more time!")
