this is the first picture to ever be taken of mary peyton and her grandparents - together.
my parents separated may 13, 2003. it is a date that just stands out in my mind. for good and bad reasons. may 13, 2000 was mine and tommy's first "date" (that's a whole other story...) and may 13, 2004 was when tommy's mom was engaged to his step-dad, billy. so may 13th brings back so many memories - and not just because of the exact events that happened on that day, but also because of the events leading to that day and afterwards.

i am so very proud of this picture. in a sense, it makes my life easier to know that even though my mom and dad have divorced and gone their own ways, they finally can come together for me and mary peyton.
i know it's hard for them. the history that is there (they dated in high school and were married for nearly 33 years) and all that has happened. but "it is what it is". we have to move forward with life. both of my parents are happy (just look at their faces!). that is what is important to me.
i have talked to both of them over the 3 short years that mary peyton has been with us and told them that over the years, there will be many MANY events that only happen once. they have the choice to be there for me, tommy, and mary peyton and be civil or not to come. i am so glad that both of my parents have chosen to be there for us. it means so much to me.
and since i know that they both read my blog, i just thought that i would tell them thank you. thank you - so much - mama and daddy.
i love you.

ok, i seriously just cried... only cause you all 5 are special to me and always will be!!
Sweet post, Suzanne. My in-laws are not quite as "grown-up" as your parents and it has surely caused much grief around those important dates and times that only happen once in a lifetime! "GET OVER IT!" is what I really want to shout at them b/c I feel like my kiddos miss out on so much with them. It says a lot about their love for you AND M.P. that they want to share those important dates, regardless of circumstances! Hats off to them! Lisa
i thought the same thing the other day when i saw the pictures on facebook. what a great picture. they all do look so happy. mary peyton will be very proud of her pictures with her grandparents and i am glad that they can come together for her sake. what great grandparents she has!!!!
May 13th is also Trey's birthday. He was born on a Friday the 13th. So now on his b'day I will think of you...
hey suzanne. mary peyton is such a cutie!! i know how much it means for your parents to put thier issues aside and come together for you. i am so lucky that my parents have always done that for my sister and me and especially now for our kids.
I cannot tell you how familiar that all sounds! I just want to copy and paste it all onto my blog so my parents can see that it CAN HAPPEN! My parents divorced after 36 years a year and 1/2 ago.
I hear Lisa on the GET OVER IT and be civil for your grandchildren.
Amen! I'm VERY happy for you Suzanne for their mature decision to put it all aside for the sake of your and MP. Thanks for sharing this!!!!!! It gives me hope!
