update on crip....

tommy is still not at work - he starts back next tuesday. i think part of him is ready and part is not. i mean.........right now he's at home and getting paid. that's a pretty good deal, don't ya think?

physical therapy started tuesday. the plan was that he would go 3x/week for 4 weeks. after yesterday's appointment with dr o'mara (paragraph below...), he will probably only go about 2 weeks. our good friend, hamp gaston, is doing the p.t. tommy was very sore after the first day, but sent me a text yesterday saying "i kicked butt in therapy today". he rode the stationary bike for 5 minutes and walked on a stairstepper type machine for 5 minutes. the first day his knee only bent 80 degrees (you understand all this talk, don't you, mk?) and yesterday it would bend 110 degrees!

he went back to dr o'mara yesterday for his post-op followup. per tommy, o'mara is pleased with the way things are looking. he said that when he got "in there", it wasn't just the lateral meniscus that was torn, but something was wrong with the medial meniscus as well. the medial had a tear as well, but also had something on it (tommy can't remember what dr o'mara called it) that was the biggest that the dr had seen.

o'mara told tommy that based on the report from the p.t., he's way ahead of schedule. that's a good thing. we're still icing the knee at night and keeping it propped up until he falls asleep and starts rolling everywhere.

thanks for your thoughts and prayers for him. now he's thinking about having the other knee checked out while we have such good insurance.........
