today was kinda crummy.

that's the only way to put it.

i got up early so i could get a head start on things that had to be done - cakes, laundry, etc. i then got ready and headed to colonial heights for mrs. patsy's funeral. it was such a good service.

we came home after it and finished more stuff that had to be done. daddy called and said that he was coming by and he/theresa got here around 3:30 or so.

well, around 5:15 (i think - i've kinda lost track of time by this point), mary peyton decides that she is going to "rock" in a chair that is NOT a rocking chair.

my daddy warned her that she was going to flip over backwards and hit her head on the coffeetable.

she showed her barnette hard-headedness (is that a word? - it really doesn't matter, it sounds good in this context) and continued.

not even 15 seconds later, she was laying in the floor holding her head about to scream.

scream, mary peyton.

let out a big one, mary peyton.

finally she did.

she curled up in my lap and we were fine. i knew she hit her head, but didn't see anything. a few minutes later, i asked her where it hurt. that's when i saw it.

she pointed right to the 1 inch "gash" that was on the back of her head.

and it was bleeding.

i could go into more descriptions, but i won't.

tommy, daddy, and theresa all thought it would probably be o.k. but i just wanted to call the dr to be sure. so, on our way to mcalisters, i called the after hours clinic. when the nurse called me back, she told me to be there as soon as possible.

great.

we had just ordered our food. tommy went back up there and told them that half of the order needed to be "to go" and the other half would be "dining in". thankfully, one of our "neighbors" (he isn't actually our neighbor, but does live in our neighborhood) and great guys from church (william) works there and was great to help us out!

we got to the clinic in record time. the dr looked at mpb's head and said that stitches would be pretty hard on her, so she would rather do a staple.

a WHAT? like the row of metal i had across my abdomen after my c-section?

yes - just like that.

but only 1 - not twenty something.

mpb did great. i held her head against my chest and the nurse helped stabalize, too. tommy went out in the hall - he said he couldn't handle it and he wanted the "medical minded people" to stay in there and take care of it. it sounded like getting your ears pierced and she only cried for a minute.

she got a sucker and stickers. we got peace of mind.

so now we have "head jewelry". at least until next friday when we get to go back to have it removed.

pictures of the gash BEFORE and AFTER stapling will be posted when i get them downloaded! stay tuned!

Earlier this evening I was thinking about your family and now I know why. It sounds like you had an eventful evening.

Hope the stampled gash heals well!

i know how you feel about the staples. collin had to get two staples in his head. the thought of staples scared me and i begged them not to do it, but instead do stitches. i got the same response. it would be too much on him. anyway, they did the staples without numbing his head, and he was fine. they did not numb bc the shot would hurt worse than the staples. a friend of mine from greenville (ben ozbun) was actually the nurse there that helped. collin has had two sets of stitches and then the staples. anna has been to the er 2 times to get rocks out of her nose! do they know how this effects our heart? i mean i think they have shaved a few years off my life with their er trips!
