3 strikes YOU'RE OUT!!!

normally.....................read on....................

o.k. so earlier this week, i decorated 2 cakes. later that night, i was gone for a little while and mary peyton was here under the "watchful eye" of her daddy. well..........a little bit later, i get a text from tommy - - - - yes, he was WAY too scared to call and hear my voice. the text said something to the effect of "mary peyton got into 1 side of the cake - you'll be able to fix it".

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

can you not watch her any closer than that!?!?! she was in the kitchen long enough BY HERSELF to get into one side of the cake?

livid does not exactly describe the way i was feeling, but it's as close as i can get.

i'm pretty sure my x-terra sprouted wings as i FLEW home to see exactly how much damage was done.

his story.............he was in the bathroom and when he came out and around the corner, he met her licking her fingers. when he called her name and she looked up at him, she had the icing color ALL OVER HER MOUTH. he almost melted through the floor and eventually got up the nerve for the text.

the end.............i was able to fix the problem and it was o.k. but i mean, really, can you PLEASE keep a little better eye on the 3 foot wonder that resides in our home???

******STRIKE ONE*****

a few days later - friday night.............i have 2 cakes to be ready saturday morning. i get one done and all is good! then tommy decides that he is going to go to wal-mart for a little shopping and ride mary peyton around (we do this often to help get this child to sleep!). he told me to go on and go to bed (since i planned to get up early and decorate them) and he would get the cake out of the over for me.

that's fine. he's done it before. i can trust him with this one.

wrong. wrong. wrong.

he puts mary peyton in the bed around 11:15 after their shopping and ride. he lays down (watching t.v.) around 11:30. i hear his alarm clock going off a little bit later and assume that he set it to wake him up to get the cake out just in case he fell asleep.

i ask him if he got the cake out. he says yes.

he turns the t.v. off and we go to bed.

i am awakened at 2:45 a.m. by my husband THROWING the covers back and freaking out. i run after him only to find the kitchen and den full of smoke. and a charred cake in the place that a nice cake should be.

he lied. in his sleepy state, he didn't realize what was going on.

that's beside the point - it's not a lot of fun getting up and baking a cake at 2:45. not fun at all.

he said that he would stay up and get this one out - i didn't trust him - i set the alarm on my cell phone. i got up and got it out.

*****STRIKE TWO*****

fast forward to tonight....................JULZ IS HOME. and i am over at her parent's house visiting. tommy had come with me, but left to (get this) go get a haircut. who goes and gets a haircut on sunday afternoon at 4:00? anyway......back to the story. so i get a phone call from tommy saying that some of our good friends have had car (truck) trouble and are broken down on the side of the road. they had called to ask if we could come get them.

i still don't know why they ASKED if we would come. all they had to do was TELL us to come - they know we'd be there!!!

ANYWAY..........he said he was headed there, taking them home, and then would be back over to julz's house to pick me up.

tonight was a big night at our church. it's the "children's night at Christmas". the school-age children put on a little play and then all of our LIFEGroups (sunday school classes) take presents down front for the children that we have adopted.

our class adopted 3 children.

all of the presents for 1 child were in the back of my vehicle.

my vehicle was not at the church.

we finally got to the church around 6:40 (church started at 6:00). we had 5 minutes to spare before time to take the toys/clothes/books down front.

*****STRIKE THREE*****

so thank goodness our life isn't baseball. God would have struck me out LONG LONG ago! i'd hate to even know what "strike" i am on after 30 years of strikes! it's all about forgiveness. and i have forgiven tommy. and here's why.....

from strike one: i am thankful that i have a husband who will stay with our child when i need him to so that i can take care of other obligations. i cannot imagine being a single parent and having the full load of a toddler on my shoulders. oh my goodness.........that's all i can muster up to say about that.

from strike two: i am thankful that the other 999 times, tommy has let me go to sleep and he HAS stayed up and gotten the cake out of the oven. most of the time he is waiting on the cake to bake while he is doing laundry or cleaning up icing bags. i really am a little spoiled.....

from strike three: i am thankful for a husband who treats our friends as family and who is willing to help them at a moment's notice. these friends read my blog, too, and i know that they know how much they mean to us and how much we love them!

now that i'm looking back and seeing how long this post is, i hope some of you have actually read the whole thing! i am thankful for God helping me to see the silver lining in the clouds - especially this past week!
