a wonderful reminder

my friend, renee, has a wonderful reminder on her website - she has a company called babyface designs which has some precious things! click on babyface design to go directly there.

anyway - she said that their pastor - chip (at pinelake) - challenged them to do something like this to remind people of why we give - why we celebrate Christmas. i loved this simple reminder - just a little note on the gift tag!

i have been trying to remind mary peyton of this - she is slowly getting it. we are one of the families who made the decision when she was born that santa would only bring 3 gifts to her each year. and he puts a few things in the stocking. anything wrapped that is for her is from mommy and daddy - and anything NOT wrapped that is for her is from santa.

this year she is starting to understand the whole "thing" about gifts. when i am wrapping, she asks, "is that for me?" i have to tell her, "no, baby. this is for _________." at first she would get upset, but now she says, "oh - and they are going to give me a present, too?" so then we had to include the whole part, "mary peyton, they might give you a present. but even if they don't, it's so much better to give presents for Jesus' birthday." to which she replied, "yes, mommy. that will make God's heart happy!"

i hope that she always remembers the old saying, "it is better to give than to receive".

Amen sista! I'm really trying to simplify Christmas this year! it really does get out of control sometimes. We might mention the birth of Jesus a few times during the day. And we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus when we wake up... and we give thanks before we eat. But really everything gets so stressful while celebrating THE PRINCE OF PEACE. Crazy! thanks for spreading the word!!!!
