i got this e-mail from a friend of mine this morning. good grief.
"This is from an attorney that represents the School board....
Suppose a new student enrolls at your school. Her name is Le - a .
How would you pronounce the child's name??? Leah?? NO Lee - A?? NOPELay - a?? NOLei??
Guess Again.
It's pronounced 'Ledasha'
oh yes...you read it right. The dash is not silent.
This child attends a school in Livingston Parish. Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her name wrong. SO, if you see something come across your desk like this please remember to pronounce the dash. When asked about the pronunciation of the name, the mother replied, 'the dash don't be silent.'"

i am laughing!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you go to court room 5 at the hinds county chancery court you will get the same recation!!!!!!
Working with the new babies in the nursery I have heard of everything. A few of my favorites: Princess Diana of the United States of America (YES! that is the name that went on her birth certificate)and Chlamydia (as in the STD)!! These poor children!
try moving to a country that some letters actually represent clicking sounds!!!! I tell the kids here that they just need to get over it and deal with it. Even some of the teachers (Easy name - Gideon - actually you have to make this phlem type sound for the G) I just call 2 of the male teachers big bob and little bob...
L&D Nurses should have this added to their responsibilities... don't let moms name their babies until the drugs have completely worn off!
HILARIOUS!!! I had 2 patients Lemonjello and Orangejello... Yes, Lemon Jello and Orange Jello.. but of course they were pronounced very fancy
oh no...oh you have got to be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
