that the weather people (and pretty much everybody else) talks about how "bad" katrina was to new orleans?
please correct me if i'm wrong - because i am sometimes - but didn't katrina hit the gulf coast? new orleans was fine after katrina - UNTIL - the levees broke. that was just an after effect of katrina.
anyway - now i've vented.
it just gets on my nerves the way the media conveniently forgets that our gulf coast was completely wiped out by katrina because they're focusing on how it "hit" new orleans.
no wonder we shouldn't trust the media.
oh - and for the record - jim cantore is crazy! but i love watching him!

GIRL, I was so going to blog about this!!!! I got so aggravated yesterday and told my MIL that I am SICK of the media saying Katrina "HIT" New Orleans...NO, it HIT the MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST and wiped it out! The NEVER mention MS!!!!!
i am with you on this one sister.....
I agree too! OH- and Will and I love Jim Cantore. He is a nut.....
It is aggravating, but I think of it as a testament to Mississippians. Instead of whining how no one was helping us, we helped ourselves. And we didn't start stealing TV's because our house was flooded...:)
I have an entire blog post about this too (I have been writing and rewriting it)! I think Clark Family is right. We didn't whine, just pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps and pulled together.
I get so angry myself at the media for this. They REFUSE to mention that Waveland was completely wiped off the map, that thousands upon thousands of homes were gone in an instant from the storm surge...
Nope. They would rather talk about New Orleans and all of those people idiotic enough to stay and then whine about how the govt didn't protect them.
Yep....you oughta hear my daughter rant about it! But I have noticed Mississippi has gotten a lot more coverage today. Or maybe not. Maybe I didn't know anything last time because our entire state was WITHOUT POWER last time. Oh yeah. That's it.
Ha.. Geraldo is even crazier! But I will say that Shepard on Fox news has not left out Mississippi. And they did make the point that Nola was affected after Katrina, not during.... if this makes you feel any better.
I agree totally! New Orleans is the arm pit of LA. It was just a matter of time before something like that happened down there. If memory serves me correctly though the Lake Pontchartrain bridge suffered some pretty bad damage from Katrina. It's pretty bad when your main source of traffic in and out of your city is out of commission.
The main reason that they got sooo much attention is exactly what you said about the levees breaking. Yeah, they got a significant amount of rain but they're the idiots that didn't build very good levees.
And I have to totally agree with you about Jim Cantore! You'd have to be wildly crazy to do the job that he does! You wouldn't catch me within 100 miles of a hurricane.
