wow. it's hard to believe that it's already here. for me (the early early shopper) months and months of planning and shopping and preparing are all coming to a close - only to start again wednesday morning. some of you know, but some don't, so i'll explain - - - i do about 80-90% of my Christmas shopping from 12/26 to the middle of march. then it doesn't all pile up on me during the fall. i started this the Christmas before we got married because i didn't know how money was going to be after we got married and it's turned out to be the best thing! and even better than that is that tommy doesn't mind me shopping ALL day the day after Christmas! it's great!
but - and i'm as guilty as any (especially if you see the contrast between the title of this post and what i talked about in the first paragraph) - have we taken time to realize what tonight is? think about the words of the song we all know all too well:
O holy night, the stars are brightly shining.

IT IS THE NIGHT OF OUR DEAR SAVIOUR'S BIRTH.
(and you know the rest).....
when mary peyton was born, there were times i would just look at her and think about how mary did the same exact thing for Jesus. just held Him, fed Him, bathed Him, etc. when God blessed us with our sweet mary peyton, He gave me a different perspective on the Christ CHILD. the BABY in the manger.
when i was little, i was kinda tricked into singing "away in a manger" at my church. i can remember being told that all of the kids were singing, but on the way i was told that one girl was sick. then told that another couldn't come. and so on. and so on. it was nothing more than a trick to get me to sing by myself. and sadly it worked! but now when i hear that song, it just holds special meaning.
yep, i'm rambling. and that's o.k.
our Saviour had NOTHING soft to sleep on. tonight. years ago. in bethlehem. He came. we are so blessed beyond measure. i doubt that any of us had to worry about our babies having a crib to sleep in. blessed.
in complete contrast to the first paragraph, i am off to make Him a birthday cake - as i have every year since mary peyton was born. so that she will realize that Christmas IS Jesus' birthday and that the spirit of santa is all real and fun, but that is not what it's all about.
and i hope that one day she will appreciate that santa only brings 3 gifts (because Jesus got 3 gifts) and that she will explain the reason to her friends so that they will understand.
