It's beginning to look a lot like....

CHRISTMAS!!!
yes, you read that right. it's begining to look a lot like Christmas on the INSIDE of my house - still all fall on the outside, though!

tommy and i decided to take advantage of some time we had today and go ahead and put up our trees. yes, you read that right, too. plural. TREES. mary peyton stayed with tommy's mom (aka gran gran) last night and then went home with her after church today. if we had not put up the trees today, it would have LITERALLY been the middle of december. and that's just not cool with either of us.

so let me tell you about my "special" trees......

FIRST is the "old" tree. this tree is the one we have used every year. it was also my family's (artificial obviously) tree most of my year's growing up. i can remember going with mama to fincher's to pick it out when i was little and putting it up NUMEROUS times. such good memories! tommy and i laugh every year that we put it up. and we say every year that it will be the tree's last. but it's not. somehow there are always enough needles to make it look full (we really don't know how - they fall off everywhere!) and once it's decorated, it's beautiful. so anyway.....this year the tree has moved from the den to the dining room. it's all lit up with 1100 white lights and a big red bow at the top. my "good" ornaments are going on it - you know....the ones that i am hoping mary peyton's sweet little fingers won't find!

SECOND is our new tree for this year. we have officially named it the "charlie brown" tree. i got this tree last year after Christmas. it looked so pretty and full in the picture on the box. wrong. please don't ever judge a tree by it's picture. bless it's heart. after putting it up and laughing, i really did kinda feel sorry for the little tree. so, even though i really need a tree that is about 2 feet taller for my den, i decided to give this tree a good home. she is wrapped in 40 feet of red sparkly garland and "sports" 900 multi colored lights. on top is a big gold glittered star. she is going to be our "fun" tree.

THIRD is a little 3 foot tree that is in it's 2nd year of use. this tree is "mary peyton's tree" and has 200 white lights and mary peyton's smaller sentimental ornaments on it. last year this tree was at the end of our couch on an antique trunk so that you could see it through the window. this year it is on what was mary peyton's changing table. yep. i've finally turned it into something other than a changing table. maybe it will stay that way after Christmas....who knows.

FOURTH, FIFTH, AND SIXTH are not really trees. yes they are. well - o.k. here is the "story" about them....they are a set of prelit pine trees that don't require ornaments or anything like that. so do they still qualify? these will be in my kitchen.

mary peyton loved the trees. all she could say - eyes big as dollar coins - was "Christmas!!! Christmas!!!". i can't wait for this year!

but finally...........the reason tommy and i do this so early - and we do it every year.... life is so incredibly crazy during the holidays. we like having this done so that we can enjoy it for more than just the month of december. i also have all of my Christmas shopping done (i go the day after Christmas and shop for the next year) and some of it wrapped. so when the "season" of craziness gets here, i'm able to sit at home, drink apple cider/hot chocolate, and watch one of a dozen holiday movies that i love instead of being at the mall or somewhere else buying stuff at FULL price. it gives us time to reflect on what the season really is instead of getting caught up in the hustle/bustle.

but don't worry.........i still like to get up on "black friday" and see what kind of bargains i can get at 5:00 a.m.!

"it's the most wonderful time of the year...."

I think your idea of getting it all done ahead of time is fabulous. YOU actually get to ENJOY the season. However, because of my own inability to get ahead, it kinda makes me mad at you! :-)

You can move down the street and get started on mine anytime you are ready. :) I bet Mary Peyton is loving all of the trees. Libbey is just amazed at the one when you walk in Wal-Mart. She won't know what to think when she has one in her house.
