friday was a busy day for me. i had to decorate 5 cakes and 2 dozen cupcakes. and i decided that i wanted mary peyton to stay here with me instead of going to daycare. why do i do this kind of thing to myself????
mary peyton was actully good - all day. it shocked me a little. she didn't whine, cry, etc. just hung out and watched me and shrek (which is our main obsession). she asked for popcorn - which she LOVES, so i popped some and let her be. i always pour it all out in a big bowl. keep that in mind.
so a little bit later, i've finished 3 cakes and the 2 dozen cupcakes - it's 10:45 and i'm checking my e-mail. i look up to see my child with a popcorn kernel at the edge of her left nostril. WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! holy cow. i ran over and "swatted" it away. only to see another. and another. and finally another. the 4th one was a little harder to get out, but we were successful. she and i both cried and i was glad that i didn't have to take her to the doctor. i did not realize that she had eaten a WHOLE bag of popcorn and was down to the kernels. good job, mom.
not so fast.
about 11:05 or so, i saw her with her finger by her RIGHT nostril. great - here we go again. i ran over to her and she said, "nose hurts, mama". great. i lay her back on the counter top and can barely see the edge of another dang popcorn kernel. "blow mary peyton. blow HARD. be still. let mama squeeze it out." nothing worked.
i called the dr and his nurse called me back. by this point i have panicked, cried, etc., more than i should. she said that if i wanted i could bring mary peyton in at 1:20, but that the kernel would probably come out when she sneezed or it would go up and come out the other way. i don't think so - they don't know how big this thing is!!!
so at 1:20 we are at dr chevalier's office. we go back into the e.r. type room and he brings a little tool. i had mary peyton's arms & legs and wanda (the nurse) had her head in a headlock. dr chevalier used his little tool and got the kernel out. afterwards, he asked what kind of popcorn we get because his popcorn kernels aren't that big! i told him that it was big to begin with!!! i also had him check her ears - just in case she got adventurous and wanted to try that.
hopefully she learned her lesson, but who knows. she can be very hardheaded! hmmmm.........wonder where she gets that from!!!
(oh - and i did get through with all of the cakes..........finally).

That'll be a story for her future boyfriends!
Oh No Way! I laughed so hard it almost hurt!! I called but either you aren't home yet or are putting her to bed...that was worth a phone call! What a day...I'll bet you are careful with popcorn (and peas and beans and beads....) in the future!!!
Oh, no. Absolutely unbelievable!!! I cannot believe she did that! Neither of my kids ever did that (at least not yet).
Next time, give her vanilla wafers. Or a banana.
Also, why on EARTH would you do 5 cakes and a whole buncha cupcakes in one day?? I DO NOT GET THAT. I am CERTAIN my arm would fall right off.
Oh Suzanne...I know you must have been frantic...I would have been too! Glad everything turned out okay.
We have been missing you over on the MMC website forum...come play with us sometime!
Thanks for the heads up!! I will remember if Bryce ever asks for popcorn to keep the kernels out! I know you were frantic I would have been too!
By the way, 4 more days!!!!!!!!

I am sitting at my computer crying from laughing! Well, if it makes you feel better Mary Paxton put a Oreo in Perrin's mouth and he started choking. I had to give him back blows until he threw it up. I guess i can write in his baby book, his first food was an Oreo. love- lee ellen
